Get Healthy Challenge

I along with Jenell of KinkyCurlyCoilyMe.com and Julian of Bella-Kinks.com have decided to embark on a new journey together and want you to come along too. Recently, we have been posting our smoothies and juices of the day via Facebook (SN&LI, KCCM, Bella Kinks) and instagram (@sunshinetildawn @blakizbeautyful, & @bellakinks). Juicing is a healthy alternative to a very hectic and busy day which a lot of us have.

I was a Vegetarian for 2 years and have been Pescetarian for 4 years. Because I’m a mom on the go and have little ones who don’t always like to eat their veggies, I needed a quick and healthy alternative to meet our needs. Juicing became that healthy alternative. I love it!

Jenell personally had difficulty getting the recommended daily amount of fruits and vegetables, because she was accustomed to eating them whole. And Guess what? She doesn’t like salads either. I shared with Jenell my eating lifestyle as a Pescetarian and my secret to getting in all my fruits and vegetables. As a new Pescetarian, Jenell has fully embraced this lifestyle and has been meat free since August 12, 2012!

Julian is striving to live a more holistic lifestyle from head to toe. She wants to look healthy both in and out, top to bottom. She doesn’t want to contradict herself in taking excellent care of her hair but allowing her healthy to go down the toilet.

Challenge Goal

The goal of this “Get Healthy” challenge is:

*increase our overall health through easy lifestyle changes. Through this challenge our goals are to provide you with healthy eating alternatives, encourage you to get moving, and to provide support throughout the month.

Challenge Details

This challenge will run on a monthly basis starting Monday, September 3rd, 2012 to Wednesday, December 12, 2012.

Month 1 – September 3, 2012 – October 3, 2012
Month 2 – October 8, 2012 – November 8, 2012
Month 3 – November 12, 2012 – December 12, 2012

The challenge is on a monthly basis, so you can join in at any given month or take a break during any given month.

Challenge Rules

Healthy Eating Alternatives – Make a green juice or smoothie at least 3 times a week (more info).

Get Moving – Commit to at least 30 minutes of exercise 2 days a week (more info).

Daily Affirmations – supporting yourself along the way through positive talk (more info coming soon).

Weekly Check Ins – group support from all participants.

How to Enter the Challenge

To enter MONTH ONE of the challenge you must do the following by September 3, 2012
Leave a comment to this post answering the following questions:

1. How many days per week will you juice?
(minimum requirement is 3 days per week)

2. How many days per week will you move?
(minimum requirement is 30 minutes of exercise at least 2 days a week)

3. What’s one of your favorite daily affirmations?
(What are you grateful for? What are you happy about? What do you love mostly about yourself? etc.)

4. What’s inspiring you to enter this challenge?

Prize

If a sexy body and increased energy aren’t enough, we will be giving prizes to TWO active participants monthly! What’s active? Checking in for all four weeks of the month.

FAQ

1. Do I have to be natural to do this challenge? Absolutely not!

2. Can I participate with a regular blender? Jenell is using a CuisineArt Power Blend from Sears and SunShine is using a Vitamix from qvc.com. As long as the tool you have can puree fruits and vegetables to your liking, you are fine!

3. Is the green shake/smoothie a meal replacement? Please read here for green smoothies and juicing options.

4. What if I’m allergic to ingredients needed to make my smoothie green? Please read here for green smoothies and juicing options.

5. What if I can’t exercise everyday? The challenge is to encourage you get moving by meeting  the minimum of 30 minutes of exercise for at least 2 days out of the week. However, we do understand life’s challenges.

6. If I do not check in am I still eligible for the prize? You must check in each week of the month to qualify for the prize.

    3. I am a strong woman and I can do anything that I out my whole heart and mind into!

    I will juice 6 days a week.
    I will move 6 days a week
    I might not be everyones first choice but I’m a great choice, I don’t pretend to be someone I’m not because I’m good at being me.

    I am a strong confident lady with a good heart.
    I’m doing this because I seriously need to get healthy and it will be nice to start a program or challenge and finish it.

    I will be active for 60 min at least 6 days a week.
    I love that I have surrounded myself with people who love me for me. They are all very encouraging and support me in my goal of just being a healthy person and for that I am thankful.
    I was inspired to take part in this challenge because of 3 reasons. In March I took part in running (i actually walked…really fast) the Dallas Rock ‘N’ Roll Half Marathon. I was pulled into running the San Antonio R ‘N’ R in November. I have been training but not on a consistant basis. Lately I have felt unhealthy, eating terribly, and haven’t worked out in 2 weeks. I just feel like i need to get it together. Plus I’m getting my masters in Nutrition and feel like I need to look like I practice what I preach :-)

    three days a week. I am grateful that I have become in touch with my
    inner spirit. It gives me all the courage I need to continue a natural
    journey for life. It makes me happy when others see the change in me and
    want to join the walk to becoming healthier. Mind, body and soul such
    rewards and extra confirmations on my personal decision, gives me more
    energy. This challenge allows me to share with others and grow from them as well. It lays another foundation for my granddaughter to know

      I made my first juice of the week Sept. 3rd, It had spinach, cabbage, green beans, celery, cucumber, green grapes and green apples. I called it my Green Monster, I had loads of energy too much actually, because I drank it in the evening hours and was unable to sleep.. Today will be my get moving day, will update later…

    I will have a green smoothie/juice everyday. This was something I use to do, and I kept the weight off with ease.

    2. How many days per week will you move?
    I will move everyday of the week for atleast 30 minutes, sometimes longer. Not all days will be high impact. My rest days will be low impact workouts such as pilates, yoga, going for a walk etc.

    I plan to work out 5 days a week for between 45 to an hour
