sR:Haha! My hair is thick & curly when it’s washed & it won’t stop growing! A lot of people don’t know, but I have natural red strands of hair in my head. If anyone would like to wash & blow dry, I’ll be right there in the chair!
SunShine:I’m assuming you have been growing it for a long time…How long?
sR:I’ve been growing my hair for 9 years now. I get trims & it grows right back.
(Must be nice J)
SunShine: Right now in the natural community there is this thing about people touching natural hair. sR would you let someone touch your hair?
sR:Of course haha, why not? Especially if she’s pretty (LOL)
SunShine:Why music? Why is this your gift?
sR:I’ve always had a passion for music! As a child, my parents would play their favorite songs by their favorite artists (The Debarges, Luther Vandross, Michael Jackson, Patti Labelle, Howard Hewett, New Edition, etc) and they would have me sing along. Whether we were at home or in the car. I just loved music & till this day, I love it the same if not more.
SunShine:What inspires you musically? Is it a beat, a melody, a person, feelings?
sR:: Well, when it comes to writing, I’m usually inspired by the track (beat) first then I express my feelings on paper. When I wrote “Alive,” I was singing to a particular person who had me at a very low point at the time & till this day, the song is motivating listeners & helping them through the same thing I went through. I’m also inspired by my fans being inspired. (Amen to that!)
SunShine:If you put your music in a box what would the outside label say?
sR:Haha, If I put my music in a “box,” the label would say “Very unique. Open with caution.” (Ha! I love it!)
SunShine:Out of all of the songs you have recorded, which one makes you feel free? Why? (I was hoping he would say “You”)…
sR: Out of all the songs, I would have to say “Alive.” As I mentioned above, I was in a position that I thought I would never break from. As I listen back, I could hear the pain & emotion and to say I’m finally out of the hurt, I feel relieved & “free” when I listen to it.
(I guess it’s true that music comes from a real place with sR)
SunShine: “Buku Fine” to me is the natural girl anthem. How do you feel about the natural community digging your music?
sR: Haha, I love all of the Natural Community! All of you are Buku Fine! Holla at me, baby! (LOVES!)
SunShine: Who is Sean Ray?
sR:Things that make me “tick..” Honestly, I would say, seeing females’ disrespecting themselves really angers me. Women have so much to offer, they’re precious, unique & beautiful. I hate to see a girl not realizing her worth. What makes me laugh? Anything from a good comedian to a girl with a great sense of humor! haha – My favorite color! Is definitely Black & Red! My favorite number is 22!
SunShine: This concludes the interview. Is there anything else you want to include or want me to touch on?
sR: SunShine Malone is the best!!!! (Insert my Kool-Aid smile here!)
SunShine’s Reflection:
Sean Ray has a very special place in my heart. He’s humble, dedicated, and remains connected with his fans. From the first time someone sent me a tweet with his music link, I fell in love with his music. The song “You” was on heavy rotation. It’s my favorite next to “Give Me Time” and my new fav “Alive”. There was something truly pure about his voice and it wasn’t pretentious at all. It had a pop feel, but you could tell that it had an urban root. My ears were like, yes! I was like why isn’t he signed? It really baffled me! I learned from sR that he has been writing and singing since he was seven and music is engrained in him. He comes from a family of musicians with his father paving the way. His sister Chanelle, who you here on “Bed Room”, is equally talented. Sean Ray has original music and often covers hits that you would here on rotation daily. He just released another mixtape titled “Broken Keys” and I’m sure you ladies will enjoy. He truly has a gift and I wanted to share it with the world, but don’t just take my word for it, take a listen! I will be smiling from ear to ear on the day he is signed and deep down I will be saying I knew it! Thank you Sean Ray for sharing your story with the SunShine’s Natural & Loving It! Community. #TeamSeanRay forever! Have a blessed birthday sR! I’ll see you guys on the next chat! xoxo
